About Photo Consultant Monashee
Monashee is a photo consultant and represents an all female roster of creative commercial photographers. As a consultant, she works with photographers defining their niche, curating their portfolios, creating their print and online marketing tools targeted to the right clients and agencies. Her role as a rep is not traditional. She started her all female roster when a few of the talented photographers she was consulting with were excited about their newly curated portfolio’s however needed help getting their work seen. She now works with them on an ongoing basis to promote and market their work. Monashee has chosen to focus on elevating women because she sees a need for women to be given more visibility in a traditionally male dominated industry. There are so many talented female photographers, that simply aren’t getting seen on the commercial level, but have just as much right to be there. She wants to change that. She also enjoys working with her male consulting clients, and helps them with their portfolio and marketing needs behind the scenes.Monashee lives with her husband and twin daughters on one of the Gulf Islands in the West Coast of British Columbia.
Monashee has been in the commercial photography industry in some capacity on and off for over 2 decades. Her first job was as a photo researcher for a top stock agency (that no longer exists.) She spent hours culling through film for advertising clients to find the perfect fit for their projects. Through the years she has had her hand in production, estimating, business management and marketing.
The role of consultant came naturally to Monashee. She graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2002. Although her focus was on photography, she ventured into performance and critical studies and realized that her perspective and critical eye were where her strength and interest lay. When she found out she could help photographers with this in the real world, she knew she had found her perfect career match.
Her transition to rep was not as natural, but came about in the most organic way possible. She had worked with several photographers quite closely to build out their portfolios. They left feeling proud of their portfolios and new direction, but were overwhelmed by the road ahead and didn't know where to start. Their need for direction and support led naturally into long-term mentorships that developed (there may or may not have been some kicking and screaming involved) into a repping-type relationship.
Monashee feels invested in the success of her artists and continues to align her vision with theirs. The artists she has partnered with are creative, driven and intensely passionate about what they do and why they do it. She believes in their unique vision and is dedicated to helping them reach their ideal clients.
